WHICH JOHNSON SAYS WAS NOT GOOD FOR RURAL MINNESOTA. JOHNSON, A REPUBLICAN, IS PART OF THE MAJORITY PARTY IN THE SENATE.

THE ROSEAU CITY COUNCIL, THIS WEEK, APPROVED A LEASE AGREEMENT AT THE ROSEAU MUNICIPAL AIRPORT WITH THE MINNESOTA D.N.R. FOR A FIREWATCH HELICOPTER. COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR TODD PETERSON SAYS THE AIRPORT IS UNDERGOING A COMPLETE OVERHAUL. MOST OF THE FUNDING FOR THOSE AIRPORT PROJECTS COME FROM STATE AND FEDERAL SOURCES.

A PETITION AT A WHITE HOUSE WEBSITE WHICH PROPOSED GIVING THE NORTHWEST ANGLE TO CANADA HAS FAILED. THE PETITION NEEDED ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND SIGNATURES TO REACH A WHITE HOUSE REVIEW LEVEL; IT GOT LESS THAN FIFTY-SIX HUNDRED SIGNERS.

THE EAST GRAND FORKS SHOPKO STORE IS NOW PART OF THE LIST OF CLOSINGS ANNOUNCED BY THE COMPANY, AS PART OF A RE-STRUCTURING UNDER CHAPTER ELEVEN BANKRUPTCY. THE WARROAD SHOPKO STORE WILL ALSO CLOSE THIS YEAR, ALONG WITH STORES IN MAHNOMEN AND PAYNESVILLE.
