THE ANNUAL INDUCTION CEREMONY FOR THE ROSEAU ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME IS SUNDAY AFTERNOON (2 PM) AT THE ROSEAU SCHOOL THEATRE. THIS YEAR’S INDUCTEES INCLUDE FORMER PRO HOCKEY PLAYER DALE SMEDSMO; COLLEGE GOLF ALL-AMERICAN LAURA LUNDBOHM; FORMER RAMS HOCKEY COACH GARY HOKANSON; ROSEAU’S FIRST PROFESSIONAL BASEBALL PLAYER, WAYNE BRADLEY; AND THE LATE PETE GROSCHUP, WHO COACHED RAMS GOLF FOR MORE THAN THREE DECADES. ALSO BEING INDUCTED IS THE 2001 STATE CHAMPION RAMS GIRLS GOLF TEAM.

ELECTION DAY IS JUST OVER A MONTH AWAY, BUT AN EARLY ABSENTEE VOTING PERIOD IS ALREADY UNDERWAY. MINNESOTA SECRETARY OF STATE STEVE SIMON SAYS PARTICIPATION IS UP 180 PERCENT SINCE 2014; AND THAT PRIMARY ELECTION NUMBERS COULD BE A PREDICTOR OF NOVEMBER 6TH POLLING PLACE ACTIVITY. IN RECENT YEARS, MINNESOTA HAS LED THE NATION IN VOTER PARTICIPATION.

THE ROSEAU CITY COUNCIL, THIS WEEK, AUTHORIZED A LETTER OF SUPPORT FOR THE ROSEAU COUNTY TRAILBLAZERS; WHICH HAS A FEDERAL GRANT APPLICATION TO CONVERT THE ROSEAU TO WARROAD RAILBED TO A GRANT-IN-AID TRAIL. THAT COULD TRIGGER ADDITIONAL FUNDING FOR TRAIL IMPROVEMENTS. THE TRAILBLAZERS ACQUIRED THAT PROPERTY ABOUT A DECADE AGO.

MINNESOTA GOVERNOR MARK DAYTON HAS APPOINTED TEN NEW MEMBERS TO SERVE ON THE YOUNG WOMEN’S CABINET. THAT’S PART OF THE YOUNG WOMEN’S INITIATIVE OF MINNESOTA. WARROAD’S BRIANNE LaDUKE IS A CURRENT MEMBER OF THE YOUNG WOMEN’S CABINET.

A PORTION OF ROSEAU COUNTY ROAD FIFTEEN WILL BE CLOSED FOR SEVERAL DAYS (STARTING TODAY) AS THE MINNESOTA NORTHERN RAILROAD REPLACES THE RAIL CROSSING ON THAT ROAD, A QUARTER-MILE SOUTH OF HIGHWAY ELEVEN.

A CELEBRATION OF LIFE FOR LINDELL JUHL OF GREENBUSH IS FRIDAY AFTERNOON AT FOUR AT THE SEVENTH DAY ADVENTIST CHURCH IN KARLSTAD. LINDELL JUHL WAS 90.

RELAY FOR LIFE OF ROSEAU COUNTY HAS A LIVE AND SILENT AUCTION TOMORROW EVENING (6 PM) AT THE ROSEAU CITY CENTER. THEY’LL SERVE A FREE WILL OFFERING MEAL.

A FOUR HOUR A.A.R.P. SMART DRIVER REFRESHER COURSE IS OCTOBER 19TH (1-5 PM) AT ROSEAU’S FOUR SEASONS SENIOR CENTER. AN INITIAL COURSE, FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE NEVER TAKEN THAT DRIVER SAFETY CLASS, IS OCTOBER 20TH (8:30-4:30), ALSO AT THE SENIOR CENTER. INSTRUCTOR MICKY HULST HAS MORE INFORMATION (463-2644).

VOYAGEURS COMTRONICS IS STILLWAITING FOR EQUIPMENT TO CONVERT ROSEAU COUNTY’S FREE OVER-THE-AIR TV SIGNALS TO LOWER CHANNEL NUMBERS, AS REQUIRED BY THE FEDERAL COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION. UNTIL THAT EQUIPMENT IS INSTALLED, THE CBS AND ABC CHANNELS WON’T BE AVAILABLE.
