THE ROSEAU CITY COUNCIL, THIS WEEK, APPROVED PUBLIC HEARINGS LATER THIS MONTH AT THEIR PLANNING COMMISSION; FOR A PAIR OF SIGN VARIANCE REQUESTS. ONE FROM THE STEVE ANDERSON LAW OFFICE ON HIGHWAY ELEVEN, WHICH IS ADDING A TITLE AND ABSTRACT BUSINESS. AND THE OTHER FROM THE ROSEAU RIVER WATERSHED DISTRICT, WHICH HAS ALREADY PUT UP SIGNS AT IT’S NEW LOCATION NEAR POLARIS INDUSTRIES.

THE COUNCIL ALSO RECOGNIZED A THREE HUNDRED DOLLAR DONATION TO THE ROSEAU RIVERVIEW PARK GAZEBO CONCERT FUND FROM THE BILLBERG FAMILY.

A CELEBRATION OF LIFE FOR ROBIN BITZER OF BAUDETTE IS SATURDAY EVENING (5 PM) AT THE BAUDETTE AMERICAN LEGION. MEMORIALS ARE PREFERRED TO THE LAKE OF THE WOODS HUMANE SOCIETY. ROBIN BITZER WAS 63.

BADGER’S ANNUAL FALL FESTIVAL IS THIS WEEKEND. SATURDAY EVENTS INCLUDE AN 11 A.M. PARADE; A BADGER JAYCEES CORNHOLE TOURNAMENT; AND TOWN AND COUNTRY BINGO AT THE COMMUNITY CENTER.

ROSEAU COUNTY HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTIONS ARE THURSDAY AFTERNOON (1-4 PM) AT THE ROSEAU COUNTY HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT; FRIDAY MORNING (Ten to Noon) AT THE BADGER COUNTY SHOP; AND FRIDAY AFTERNOON (2-4 PM) AT THE GREENBUSH SHEEP PALACE.

MEMBERS OF THE MINNESOTA DNR AND ROSEAU FIRE DEPARTMENT HELPED RESCUE A BEAR THAT HAD GOTTEN IT’S HEAD STUCK INSIDE A METAL CREAM CAN LAST WEEK. ERIC BENJAMIN WITH THE DNR WAS FIRST TO RESPOND, WITH AARON ROSE, LEON HOUT, AND NEIL VATNSDAL OF THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVING LATER. AFTER QUITE THE STRUGGLE TO FREE THE BEAR, THEY EVENTUALLY USED THE “JAWS OF LIFE” TO CUT THE CAN FREE. THE BEAR RAN OFF WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT.
