MINNESOTA STATE FAIRGOERS WERE ABLE TO TASTE THE NEWEST APPLE FROM THE UNIVERSITY of MINNESOTA. CALLED “FIRST KISS”, THE APPLE IS THE 27TH VARIETY PRODUCED BY THE UNIVERSITY’S HORTICULTURE PROGRAM. DAVID BEDFORD, A HORTICULTURIST WITH THE UNIVERSITY, SAYS ATTEMPTS TO CREATE AN APPLE TO SURVIVE MINNESOTA’S WINTERS STARTED IN 1878. THE ‘FIRST KISS’ APPLE IS A CROSS BETWEEN THE ‘HONEYCRISP’ AND AN EARLY-RIPENING APPLE FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS.

THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD, LAST WEEK, SET SEPTEMBER 25TH FOR AN ORAL AUCTION OF THE FORMER GREENBUSH HIGHWAY SHOP, WITH A MINIMUM BID OF TWENTY THOUSAND DOLLARS. AN AUCTION EARLIER THIS SUMMER YIELDED NO BIDDERS.

JOHNSON REPLACES IVAN HIRST, WHO MOVED INTO THE PRINCIPAL’S OFFICE AT ROSEAU HIGH SCHOOL.

THE CABELA’S NATIONAL WALLEYE TOUR ENDS IT’S SEASON WITH A CHAMPIONSHIP EVENT TOMORROW THROUGH FRIDAY ON LAKE OF THE WOODS. CHIP LEER OF WALKER, MINNESOTA IS THE TV AND STAGE HOST FOR THE NATIONAL WALLEYE TOUR. HE STARTED HIS CAREER AS A FISHING GUIDE OUT OF OAK ISLAND ON LAKE OF THE WOODS.

A PUBLIC HEARING, FOR COMMENT ON A DRAFT BUFFER RULE FOR THE ROSEAU RIVER WATERSHED DISTRICT, IS TOMORROW MORNING (8:30 A.M.) AT THE WATERSHED OFFICE.
