THE MAN KILLED IN AN EARLY MONDAY MORNING HOUSE FIRE NEAR BADGER HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED AS FIFTY-ONE YEAR OLD MICHAEL DOWNHAM OF BADGER, AND FORMERLY OF ST PAUL.

ROSEAU COUNTY DISPATCH RECEIVED A 9-1-1 CALL JUST BEFORE FOUR A.M. MONDAY FROM A FEMALE RESIDENT OF THE HOME, SAYING IT WAS ON FIRE.
THE WOMAN, AND HER JUVENILE SON ESCAPED WITHOUT INJURY.

THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE REMAINS UNDER INVESTIGATION, BUT THE ROSEAU COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE SAYS UNSAFE CIGARETTE SMOKING PLAYED A ROLE.

THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD, THIS WEEK, APPROVED AN AUDITING CONTRACT WITH HOFFMAN, PHILLIP AND KNUTSON. COLLEEN HOFFMAN HAS BEEN AUDITING ROSEAU COUNTY FOR MORE THAN A DECADE.

THE ROSEAU SCHOOL BOARD, THIS WEEK, APPROVED WHAT IS DESCRIBED AS A “TRADITIONAL” CALENDAR FOR NEXT SCHOOL YEAR. AFTER DISCUSSING THE MERITS OF TWO OTHER OPTIONS WHICH COULD HAVE LENGTHENED THE EASTER BREAK, AND ELIMINATED THE MARCH BOYS HOCKEY TOURNAMENT BREAK.

THE BOARD ALSO ACCEPTED THE RESIGNATION OF SPANISH TEACHER CINDY ROMERO, WHO’S IN HER FIRST YEAR IN ROSEAU.



THE FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY HAS BEEN WORKING ON NEW FLOODPLAIN MAPS FOR THE PAST FIVE YEARS; THE CURRENT MAPS HAVEN’T BEEN UPDATED SINCE 1981.

BUT THE NEW MAPS FOR THE CITY OF ROSEAU DO NOT RECOGNIZE THE COMPLETED EAST DIVERSION FLOOD CONTROL PROJECT WHICH MEANS A LETTER OF MAP REVISION IS NECESSARY. MAYOR JEFF PELOWSKI SAYS A ‘LOMR’ DELAY WILL COST RESIDENTS SOME MONEY.

THAT LETTER OF MAP REVISION WAS EXPECTED APRIL 20TH; ‘FEMA’ IS NOW SAYING THAT WILL BE DELAYED INTO JULY.



AN INTERNATIONAL RAINY/LAKE OF THE WOODS WATERSHED FORUM WAS HELD LAST WEEK IN INTERNATIONAL FALLS.
