THE ROSEAU CITY COUNCIL, THIS WEEK, HONORED JEFF BALLARD; WHO’S RETIRING AFTER FIVE YEARS AS CHIEF OF THE VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT.

BALLARD IS HANDING THE RESPONSIBILITY TO CRAIG McMILLIN.

BALLARD TOLD THE COUNCIL THAT OVERALL ACTIVITY NUMBERS FOR THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WERE UP LAST YEAR; BUT THAT THERE WERE MANY FEWER WILDLAND FIRES THAN EXPECTED.

THE COUNCIL ALSO APPROVED THE USE OF ALCOHOL IN THE CITY CENTER FOR A NUMBER OF EVENTS, INCLUDING AT LEAST NINE WEDDINGS THIS SUMMER AND FALL.
